Web Series Festival Opens Submissions for 12th Annual Hollywood Edition, Spotlighting Emerging Showrunners

3 min read

The Web Series Festival has officially opened submissions for its 12th annual Hollywood edition, inviting creators worldwide to submit their web series, episodic pilots, and digital shorts. Returning September 19, 2026, the festival continues its rise as one of the industry’s most compelling launchpads for emerging episodic talent — a place where the next generation of showrunners, writers, and creators first break through.

Since its founding in 2015, the Web Series Festival has become a proving ground for storytellers redefining what episodic entertainment can be. Long before a series lands on a major streamer or a creator steps into a writers’ room, many begin their journey here — crafting bold, character-driven stories that resonate with audiences and capture the attention of industry insiders. The festival’s mission has always been clear: champion the creators who are building tomorrow’s television landscape from the ground up. Its Hollywood setting underscores that purpose, offering independent storytellers a stage in the heart of the entertainment industry.

‘Web series have always been the spark before the wildfire,’ said festival organizers. ‘They’re where new genres take shape, where new voices emerge, and where creators learn to build worlds with the same ambition as any network or streamer. Our festival exists to spotlight those voices before the rest of Hollywood catches on.’ More than a showcase, the festival’s programming is designed to elevate creators. Attendees gain access to curated networking opportunities, industry-focused panels, and conversations that help bridge the gap between independent creators and the broader entertainment ecosystem.

The 2025 edition featured a dynamic lineup spanning comedy, drama, sci-fi, documentary, animation, and experimental episodic work. Creators from around the world participated, contributing to a slate that reflected the diversity, ambition, and creative risk-taking that define modern serialized storytelling. Participants consistently praise the festival’s creator-first ethos. Camille Solari of Laugh Factory & Comedy Central shared her experience, saying, ‘What an absolutely wonderful film festival. Great people! Great festival! Great all round! We were so pleased to be a part of this!’

For 2026, the festival is expanding its focus on rising voices, genre-bending narratives, and projects with strong potential for series development. ‘We’re looking for stories with staying power — characters you want to follow, worlds you want to revisit, and creators who are ready to take the next leap,’ said the festival team. ‘This year’s festival will be our most ambitious celebration of episodic storytelling yet.’ The festival provides a global platform for digital storytelling, with more information available at https://www.webseriesfestival.com.

Italy passes law on AI outlining privacy and child access

The post Italy passes law on AI outlining privacy and child access appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Italy has formally passed a sweeping new law to regulate artificial intelligence, becoming the first member of the European Union to roll out comprehensive legislation in step with the bloc’s landmark AI Act. The Italian Senate granted final approval after a year of debate, concluding what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government described as a decisive step in shaping how new technologies are deployed across the country. Italy sets tough penalties for offenders The legislation, ministers argue, lays out the boundaries for human-centric, transparent, and safe use of AI while balancing the need to foster innovation, cybersecurity, and economic growth. The law casts its net widely, and it stretches into healthcare, schools, the justice system, workplaces, sport, and the public sector. AI access for children under 14 has also been tightened, and it now requires parental consent. “This law brings innovation back within the perimeter of the public interest, steering AI toward growth, rights and full protection of citizens.” Alessio Butti, the undersecretary for digital transformation. Lawmakers also opted for a hard line on abuses. A new offence has been added to the criminal code covering the unlawful spread of AI-generated or manipulated content, such as deepfakes. Anyone found guilty faces between one and five years in prison if their actions cause harm. Using AI to commit fraud, identity theft, market manipulation, or money laundering will now be treated as an aggravating circumstance, raising potential sentences by a third. Judges remain the sole authority in legal rulings, though courts are empowered to demand rapid takedowns of illicit material. Government agencies to oversee its implementation Responsibility for enforcing the regime lies with the Agency for Digital Italy and the National Cybersecurity Agency, though existing financial watchdogs such as the Bank of Italy and Consob retain powers in their own spheres. The Department…
