Trump blames past leaders as Kennedy Center reels from cancellations and ticket slump

As ticket sales crater and performances are quietly canceled at the Kennedy Center following Donald Trump’s takeover, the president is once again deflecting blame. Trump claimed on Truth Social that he “inherited” massive deficits and stepped in to rescue the institution, despite evidence that financial and ratings troubles worsened after he installed himself as board chair. Since Trump assumed control, The Nutcracker has seen a historic drop in ticket sales, the annual honors broadcast hit record-low ratings under his hosting, and a Trump-aligned board voted to rename the venue — a move it had no authority to make — fueling criticism that Trump’s cultural power grab has backfired spectacularly.
