PANews reported on December 15th, citing Cointelegraph, that Bhutan has signed a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with crypto market maker Cumberland DRW to collaborate on building digital asset infrastructure in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), further deepening the country's long-term cryptocurrency strategy focused on sustainable development. The collaboration covers Cumberland's support for Bhutan's Bitcoin reserve management, establishing a business location in Gelephu Mindfulness City, and employing local talent. The market maker will also send experts in the field to train the local workforce.
According to the memorandum of understanding, Cumberland and Bhutan aim to explore the development of a national crypto ecosystem encompassing modern financial frameworks, sustainable mining and AI computing, yield generation, and stablecoin infrastructure. This initiative is spearheaded by digital infrastructure company Green Digital, which is responsible for ensuring that digital asset development aligns with Bhutan's broader goals of sustainable development and economic diversification.
