Reuters: The DOGE Department Has Been Disbanded

  • Reuters reported that the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) at the White House has been disbanded.
  • The department’s term expires in July 2026, but at least part of the team has already been reassigned.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has actually been disbanded and employees have been moved to other positions. This is reported by the publication Reuters.

Recall, this state body was formed after the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential elections. Its task was to reduce federal spending, while initially DOGE was headed by billionaire Elon Musk.

At the end of May 2025, the latter announced that he was leaving politics to focus on business development. After that, disagreements arose between Musk and Trump, the billionaire even created his own political party designed to oust the current state system.

DOGE has also faced criticism due to a wave of resignations among officials, questionable performance and lack of transparent reporting.

Now, according to Reuters, most of its functions have been taken over by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). In comments to the publication, its head Scott Kupor noted that DOGE “does not actually exist” and the body “ceased to be a centralized structure.”

The publication noted that at least some of the Department’s employees have been transferred to new positions. For example, Joseph Gebbia Jr, a well-known designer and founder of Airbnb who was part of the DOGE team, was appointed to head the National Design Studio to redesign government websites.

The staffing changes also affected Zachary Terrell, Rachel Riley and Jeremy Levine. Some of them are still working to reduce grants and spending, but under other structures.

Under Trump’s executive order, DOGE’s term expires in July 2026. However, officials of his administration behave as if the body has already been disbanded, Reuters emphasized.

Trump also confirmed the lifting of the moratorium on hiring new employees in government agencies. This measure was implemented back at the end of January 2025.

The DOGE website continues to operate. But the last entries on it are dated August 2025. The Department’s X (formerly Twitter) page, however, does release new postings. Neither Musk nor the DOGE team had commented on the news at the time of publication.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
